Lead paint onsteel structures
Older towers, tanks and steel structures were often coated with lead paint. Repainting, repair or demolition means testing and controlling it first.
DOSH
Lead in thecoating
Lead-based coatings were widely used on steel towers, water tanks, bridges and utility equipment for corrosion protection. When those structures are repainted, repaired or demolished, blasting, grinding or cutting can release lead dust and debris, which is regulated for worker safety under Cal/OSHA's lead in construction standard and for waste disposal.
Alliance tests coatings, controls the work area, removes or stabilizes lead paint, and handles the waste, so the prime's painting, repair or demolition crew can follow.
Coating testing
Lead testing by CDPH-certified inspector/assessors.
Abatement
Removal or stabilization of lead coatings with containment and dust control.
Waste handling
Characterization and disposal of lead-containing debris under RCRA rules.
Malmstrom AFBwater tower
Alliance completed water tower remediation at Malmstrom Air Force Base under military safety protocols and federal environmental regulations. The tower returned to service with zero safety incidents and full federal compliance documentation.
“The project was completed during summer break without a single issue.”

How leadabatement works
Test
Coatings are sampled and analyzed.
Plan
We set containment, worker protection and waste handling for the structure.
Contain
The work area is enclosed to keep lead dust and debris contained.
Remove or stabilize
Lead coatings are removed or stabilized.
Clear & document
Clearance and waste documentation for the prime and owner.
Lead Paint on Steel StructuresFAQ
Do I need to test before repainting a tower or tank?
If the structure is older, testing the existing coating is the only way to know whether lead controls are required before surface prep.
Are you lead certified?
Yes. Alliance is an EPA Lead-Safe Certified Firm with CDPH Lead Inspector/Assessor and lead supervisor certifications.
Can you work at height and in confined spaces?
Yes. Crews are confined space entry certified and have completed elevated water tower work.
Do you handle the lead waste?
Yes. We characterize and dispose of lead-containing waste under RCRA hazardous waste rules, with DOT-certified transport.
Repainting or demolishing an older structure?
Send the details. We'll scope testing and abatement for your bid.
